Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place a small fine mesh strainer on top of a matcha bowl (chawan) - See Note #4, add matcha powder to the strainer, and sift into the bowl. Add only ½ to 1 tablespoon of the hot filtered water to the matcha, and using a bamboo whisk (chasen), whisk matcha until smooth (may be a thick paste if using less water), about 30 seconds. Add remaining hot water, and briskly whisk in a “Z” or “W” motion until very foamy (about 45 to 60 seconds), then slow down and whisk towards the top of the matcha in the same motion to break up larger bubbles to finish the micro-foam.
  2. To a tall glass (18 ounce), add Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup, vanilla bean paste, pistachio milk, and stir until well combined. Fill glass about â…” full with ice cubes, and slowly pour matcha directly over ice (to float). Serve immediately with a reusable straw, stir well, and enjoy!

Notes

  1. The balance of flavor in this recipe has been created by using these exact ingredients. This drink is sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. So, taste it first and add more only if needed.  You can find the recipe for my Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup on my website. It can be made ahead of time, and kept refrigerated for up to 2 weeks in an airtight glass container. This syrup is thick and rich in pistachio flavor, and is a key ingredient in this drink recipe. You can use the syrup for other things, like drizzling over pancakes and waffles, and it’s amazing over ice cream.
  2. You can substitute pure vanilla extract, but it won’t have the same rich flavor. If you are using a different milk (see options in Note #3), increase the amount of vanilla bean paste (or extract) to ½ teaspoon.
  3. For this recipe, I recommend using Taché unsweetened vanilla pistachio milk. If you cannot find the vanilla unsweetened version, then opt for Táche original unsweetened barista pistachio milk and add another ¼ teaspoon vanilla bean paste to the pistachio milk (for a total of ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste). Taste test and add more milk, only if needed (up to 8 ounces milk). For a dairy option, use whole or 2% milk, but keep in mind you will be losing some of the pistachio flavor without the pistachio milk.
  4. Quick and Easy Method: If you don’t have a matcha set with a bowl, strainer, and bamboo whisk (or just want a quick way to make this drink), then sift the matcha into a glass or small pitcher, add all the hot filter water, and whisk on low speed using a handheld electric whisk/frother, until combined and foamy.
  5. Makes one 9 ounce drink (18 ounces with ice).

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

This drink is best served iced, but for colder weather, simply heat and froth the pistachio milk and serve in a large mug. My Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup makes all the difference and give this matcha drink that bold pistachio flavor!

Double Pistachio Matcha Latte: Rich, Nutty & Delicious Flavor

If you love pistachios and matcha, this Double Pistachio Matcha Latte is a must-try homemade drink recipe! Made with silky pistachio milk and my homemade Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup, this delicious latte may be dairy free, but it delivers double the pistachio flavor in every sip. The rich, nutty pistachio flavor perfectly complements the earthy notes of matcha green tea for a smooth, flavorful café-style drink.

Why You’ll Love This Pistachio Matcha Latte

  • Bold pistachio flavor: Two pistachio ingredients create an extra-rich, nutty taste.

  • Simple All-Natural Ingredients: Enjoy a homemade alternative to coffee shop drinks.

  • Hot or Iced: Customize your matcha latte for any season or craving. Visit the Pimp My Recipe section below for details.

  • Easy to Make at Home: Create a delicious cafĂ©-style beverage without the coffee shop price.

  • Matcha Green Tea Benefits: Matcha provides antioxidants and naturally occurring caffeine for a gentle energy boost and calm focus.

    • Caffeine: Matcha is caffeinated (about 38 -70 mg per 8 ounce serving - caffeine varies by brand and harvest), but contains less caffeine than an 8 ounce cup of coffee (about 100 - 200 mg, depending on brand and brewing method).

    • Antioxidant: L-theanine acts as an antioxidant in matcha and slows the absorption of caffeine, which helps avoid sharp spikes and afternoon crashes that are often triggered by coffee.

    • Better Focus: L-theanine also increases alpha-wave activity in the brain, which increases alertness and focus without the jitteriness.

Whether you enjoy it iced on a warm summer afternoon or hot on a chilly morning, this Double Pistachio Matcha Latte is a delicious way to enjoy the irresistible combination of pistachios and matcha all year long!

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 2 main tips to making the best Double Pistachio Matcha Latte:

  1. High quality pistachio milk is a must for this recipe. I recommend TachĂ© unsweetened vanilla pistachio milk. With very few ingredients, only 50 calories in an 8 ounce serving, and no added sugars, it contributes to the overall naturally wholesome quality of this drink. If you cannot find the vanilla unsweetened version, then opt for Táche original unsweetened barista pistachio milk and add another ÂĽ teaspoon vanilla bean paste to the pistachio milk (total of ½ teaspoon vanilla).

  2. For the sweetness and that bold pistachio flavor, a must is my Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup. This can be made ahead of time and stored up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator in an airtight glass container.

It’s time to customize and Pimp My Recipe.

Pimp My Recipe:

  • Make it Hot: If you desire a hot drink for colder weather, simply heat and froth the pistachio milk and serve it in a large mug. Add the matcha and syrup, stir, and enjoy!

  • Make it with Dairy Milk: Instead of using pistachio nut milk, use whole or 2% milk. Keep in mind you will be losing some of the pistachio flavor without the pistachio milk, so taste test and add more Creamy Pistachio Simple Syrup, if needed.
