Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Into an 8 ounce glass (or matcha bowl), sift matcha powder, and add water. Using a handheld milk frother (or bamboo whisk/chasen), whisk together until fully combined and frothy. Set aside.
  2. To a tall drinking glass (18 ounces), add ice cubes until ⅔ full. Over ice, pour the Torani Creme de Menthe syrup, and almond milk. Then slowly float/pour prepared matcha over ice cubes. Serve immediately with a reusable straw, then stir, and enjoy this refreshing drink!

Notes

  1. This amount of Torani Creme de Menthe syrup will yield a deliciously sweet (but not cloyingly sweet) drink. If you prefer moderate sweetness, reduce the quantity to only 1 tablespoon. If you use less, that bright minty flavor will disappear.
  2. Although you can use any type of dairy or nut milk in this drink recipe, I found that unsweetened vanilla almond milk has the best consistency and does not compete with the other flavors in this drink. Other great substitutes are unsweetened vanilla macadamia milk, unsweetened coconut milk, or 2% dairy milk. I would not recommend using oat milk or pistachio milk for this recipe.
  3. Makes one serving (about 9-10 ounces liquid or 18 ounces with ice).

How to Make this Cool & Refreshing Iced Minty Matcha Latte!

Blog Comments & Tips

A refreshingly minty summer drink recipe!

If you enjoy the flavor of Crème de Menthe liqueur, then you will love this quick and easy matcha latte recipe. Cool, creamy, and incredibly refreshing, this 3-ingredient Iced Minty Matcha Latte is the perfect pick-me-up for busy mornings or afternoon slumps. Made with vibrant matcha, fresh minty flavor, and your favorite milk, this easy latte delivers a smooth energy boost with a crisp, cooling twist in every sip. Matcha contains many health benefits.

Powerful Antioxidants: Matcha has become a popular wellness drink for good reason. Made from finely ground green tea leaves, matcha contains powerful antioxidants called catechins that may help protect the body from oxidative stress and support overall health. Because you consume the entire tea leaf when drinking matcha, it provides a more concentrated source of nutrients compared to traditional green tea.

Steady Energy Boost: One of the biggest benefits of matcha is its ability to provide a calm, steady energy boost. As someone who is sensitive to caffeine, matcha is one of the few ways I can enjoy the benefits of caffeine without the jitters. Matcha naturally contains caffeine along with an amino acid called L-theanine, which may help promote focus and alertness without the jittery feeling often associated with coffee. This combination makes matcha a favorite for improving concentration, productivity, and mental clarity.

Supports Metabolism: Matcha may also support heart health and metabolism. Studies suggest that the antioxidants in green tea can help support healthy cholesterol levels and overall cardiovascular wellness. In addition, matcha is often enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle because it may help support metabolism and healthy energy levels throughout the day.

Affects Iron Absorption: Although matcha has many health benefits, matcha can affect iron absorption in both women and men. Like other teas made from the tea plant, matcha contains compounds called tannins and catechins that can reduce the body’s ability to absorb non-heme iron, the type of iron found in plant foods such as spinach, beans, lentils, nuts, and fortified grains. This effect is especially important for people who are more prone to iron deficiency, some include women with heavy menstrual cycles, vegetarians and vegans, individuals with low iron or anemia.

Drink in Moderation: To be clear, matcha does not usually cause iron deficiency on its own when consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. However, drinking matcha alongside iron-rich meals may decrease how much iron your body absorbs. To help minimize this effect, many nutrition experts recommend:

  • Drinking matcha between meals instead of with meals.

  • Pairing iron-rich foods with vitamin C sources like citrus, strawberries, bell peppers, or kiwi to improve iron absorption.

  • Avoiding matcha close to the time you take iron supplements.

If you are someone who has low iron levels or iron-deficiency anemia, it may be worth discussing tea and matcha intake with your healthcare provider.

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 5 tips to making a great Iced Minty Matcha Latte:

  1. High quality ingredients, including organic ceremonial matcha powder. Make sure your matcha is unsweetened. I like using Chaism Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea Powder for this recipe, as it’s reasonably priced, it’s premium first harvest USDA organic, and 100% pure. It has a beautiful vibrant green color, plus it has a smooth taste and mellow rich flavor.

  2. There are several brands of flavored syrups available, but to achieve the proper Crème de Menthe flavor in this Minty Matcha Latte, I highly recommend using Torani Creme de Menthe syrup. It actually tastes like Crème de Menthe liqueur without the alcohol.

  3. This may seem like a lot of mint syrup, but if you enjoy European liqueurs, or happen to be French and love the taste of Crème de Menthe liqueur, you will find that this drink has just the right balance of mint and matcha.

  4. Normally I would use a chasen and matcha bowl to prepare my matcha. However, this recipe is my quick and easy version and a handheld milk frother works quite well for this iced latte.

  5. Make sure you use the right temperature for your hot water, as you don’t want to “scorch” the matcha, which will make it taste quite bitter. For this recipe, it’s best to use hot filtered water between 140°F and 160°F.

Footnote: Remember to use between 140°F and 160°F temperature for your water to prevent making your matcha bitter.
